It was first announced in 2014 that Mattel was partnering with Sony for a Barbie movie.
After talks with the likes of Amy Schumer, who fell through after schedule conflicts, and Anne Hatheway who was set to replace her, Mattel now are looking at Margot Robbie as their new Barbie Girl!
In January, Sony had pushed the movie’s release date from Aug. 8, 2018, to May 8, 2020, but then Mattel took back the rights.
But now not only could Margot star in the movie she could possibly be on board to produce the movie through her production banner, Lucky Chap with a partnership with Warner Bros. Which the studio is already getting ready to start on production, with Margot reprising her role as Harley Quinn in her own DC universe movie, Birds of Prey.
