Margot Robbie is being courted for a role in the long-awaited Maurizio Gucci biopic, if reports are to be believed. The film, which currently has the working title ‘Gucci’, will revolve around the assassination of Guccio Gucci’s grandson and former head of the fashion house, Maurizio, who was killed by a hitman.
Margot will presumably play his wife, Patrizia Reggiani, who ordered the hit on Maurizio after he sold his stocks in the fashion house for US$170 million. The socialite earned herself the gruesome nickname ‘The Black Widow’ after a hellish media trial and was sentenced to 26 years in prison.
Patrizia famously denied herself an opportunity for parole, declaring, “I’ve never worked in my life and I’m certainly not going to start now”.
The film has tapped Wong Kar-Wai (The Grandmaster, 2046) to direct, while Charles Randolph (The Big Short) has worked on the script.
Although there is no casting for Maurizio just yet, the role was attached to Leonardo DiCaprio while Ridley Scott was still directing. Angelina Jolie was tied to Patrizia, as was Penelope Cruz, at one point.
